Mind Your Kids' Manners: They'll Thank You For It!
Practice makes perfect

I think social skills are important in all aspects of a child's life.
Social skills help others feel comfortable with us and help us make
friends. Between the ages of 2 and 5, your preschool child is most
receptive to learning the rules of polite conduct. This is a great time
to teach them that manners matter−so why not have some fun doing it?
I like to play a game where I have my child act out a bad manner, and
then demonstrate the correct one. I actually play this game at one of my
parties entitled, "Etiquette with Decadence" for nine- to 11-year-old
girls. For example, I might say, "Don't smack or slurp at the table" and
then have each girl show me what this looks like. Warning: this
inspires lots of giggling. But I'll also have her demonstrate the
